Founded in 1997 and led by Sean O’Connor, IALD, MIES, the practice is dedicated to the design of environments that are a synthesis of light and space. Our work is distinguished by light and its absence, and by an understanding that light is an integral part of the architectural experience. Sean O’Connor’s signature approach defines spaces through light, creating visual destinations and compositions of layered light and contrast using integrated architectural details and unique fixtures.

Sean O’Connor Lighting was recognized by Illumni magazine as the top lighting design firm in the United States in 2014, and has been cited four times as one of the Top 25 Retail Lighting Firms internationally.

Our work has been honored with Awards of Excellence from the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), GE Edison and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) as well as the Gold Medal for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Our commitment to the art of lighting design has led us to develop custom solutions for many of our projects. We discovered early on a need for simple, functional, performance-oriented lighting with greater architectural compatibility.

In collaboration with leading manufacturers, we have designed and developed a wide range of highly influential and award winning architectural light fixtures.
